Kate is a Herefordshire-based Land Artist who makes earthwork drawings using natural found materials to express the sensation and deeper experience of being in the landscape.
The earthwork drawings are temporary, site-specific works made in direct response to the rhythms and patterns of the materials used and the land they are sited within. The drawings are not preconceived but emerge in the moment of their making following the flow of their natural environment.
Kate will be at Newport House for three days making a site-specific earthwork drawing using seasonal natural materials from the grounds. An aerial photograph will be taken of the completed work so that visitors can appreciate the work from both the ground and the air.
Statement
I make earthwork drawings in the land using found, natural materials. These temporary drawings are site-specific and follow the pattern of the land. The pieces are not preconceived except for location and materials, the design of the drawing emerges as it’s made at that particular moment in time and in response to the surroundings and the energy of the land.
