Tim Rawlins has been making and exhibiting for over 20 years. He trained in ceramics at Windsor College, then sculpture in mixed media under mentor Mary Orram, before exploring painting and life work.
He has also studied Arts Psychotherapy and taken Arts into Business. Now working from his new studio in the Welsh borders and on a community arts project in Hereford, he has developed a direct bronze casting process for his own work as well as running workshops and working with students at Hereford College of Arts.
Statement
For over 20 years I have explored, developed and communicated through ceramic sculptures, found object assemblages, paintings and bronzes. My touchstone is the concept of haptic communication: direct contact with and through the material by handling, including my audience touching and being inspired by physical objects. My work is very much a personal exploration of Self in relation to Other, and awe inspired by early ‘primitive’ cultures, natural aesthetics and the sacred. For me direct bronze working is that physical, transformative, raw and elemental process.
